“esencia” at the Expanded Conference

On September 3rd, 2025 Denis Protopopov and Luis Toledo presented their paper on esencia, at the Expanded Conference in Linz, Austria.

The EXPANDED–Conference on Animation and Interactive Art 2025 is part of the Ars Electronica Festival, one of the most renowned art & technology events.

“esencia: A Case Study on Reinterpreting an Interactive Art and Science Installation Based on a Real-Time Atomic Physics Engine” is the title of the submitted artwork paper, and it was presented at the “interactive art” track of the conference.

The paper explains the preservation process we did on danceRoom Spectroscopy. Goes through the relevance and derivatives of the original dS (like Hidden Fields), to an important discussion about digital art preservation strategies. Additionally, it includes technical details on how esencia is built, achieving better performance and simplifying hardware requirements achieving better performance.
